Love is...

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness."
                                                                                Jeremiah 31:3

What is love? There are all kinds of love: Love between parent and child, between siblings, friends, and man and woman. So what is love? Is it a feeling? Or; is there more to this word then we think?

                             Stop where you are!!

The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all he has made.
                                                                                                         Psalm 145:13

A couple weeks ago my Dad was interviewing a lot of Punjabi Shiks for a college class he is taking. He created a list of questions to ask them so he could better understand what they believe.  One day after doing an interview with a husband and wife he told us what they answered about his question of getting married and and what love is to them. We were all surprised to learn that the man and woman trust their families to pick out someone for them to marry that they believe will be a good match for them. And they are very much aware that love is not a feeling. It's a commitment. It's a choice.

What about you? How do you see love? Is it just a feeling that comes and goes like the tide on a beach? The biggest question is; how do you handle it?

The term that goes around a lot is "I fell in love." and  "I fell out of love." Oy. love in terms of the world is very unpredictable. But, as Jesus followers we know that God's love is stable and never changes. So then is our love now? Whether it be your sister, brother, friend, father, mother, Aunt, Uncle, Cousin, husband, wife etc. we need to love them! Remember 1 Corinthians 13:4-7?
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand it's own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about  injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through circumstances.
                                                              (New living translation)

Since we are not of this world our love, God's love, is so very different from the world. But, It's exactly what the world needs. Love is sacrificial. Love is Jesus.
